Leptotila pigeons ( lat. Leptotila ) are a genus of birds of the pigeon family . The area of distribution of 11 species covers the territory from Northern Mexico to Bolivia and Uruguay. The length of the body is from 25 to 31 cm. A characteristic feature is the long non-plucked legs. Lead terrestrial lifestyle. The color of the plumage is gray or brown. The tail in relation to the body is short, has 10 feathers. Food consists mainly of berries and seeds. In laying, usually 2 eggs are cream or white. A characteristic feature of this kind is the rapid movements of the head and tail. Most species are common, only the Grenada leptotilla is on the verge of extinction. The population size is from 70 to 120 individuals [1] .
