Zimbabwe took part for the first time in the 1980 Summer Olympics in Moscow and has since performed at all the Summer Olympics. Zimbabwe athletes first participated in the 2014 Winter Olympics in 2014 .

During the performance at the Olympic Games, Zimbabwe won 8 Olympic medals : 3 gold, 4 silver and 1 bronze. Virtually all medals, except gold in women's field hockey competitions, were won by Kirsty Coventry in the swimming competitions at the Games in Athens and Beijing .
The Zimbabwe National Olympic Committee was formed in 1934 and adopted by the IOC in 1980 .
