Shonan Belmare ( 湘南 ベ ル マ ー レ Sh レ : Nan Baruma: re , English Shonan Bellmare ) is a Japanese football club from the city of Hiratsuka , Kanagawa Prefecture .

The club was founded in 1968 in the city of Tochigi by a local real estate company. In 1972, the club moved to Hiratsuku , and in 1993, under the name "Shonan Belmare", joined the professional football J-League .
" Shonan " - the name of the coastal region, which includes Hiratsuka. From 1994 to 2000, the club bore the name “Belmare Hiratsuka”, due to the then demands of the League, according to which the club could bear the name of only one particular city.
The name "Belmare" is formed by a combination of two Latin words "bellum" (from lat. - "war") and "mare" (from lat. - "sea").
