Childhood and Youth

Kane was born on August 2, 1991, in the family of Perry and Sheri Kane, who named him after the American boxer Evander Holyfield [3] . Perry Kane was an amateur boxer [4] and played hockey in the youth team Cole Harbor Colts [5] and in the hockey team of the University of St. Francis Xavier [3] . Evander’s mother was a professional volleyball player [3] . His uncle Leonard is a member of the Canadian Hall of Fame [5] . Kane has two sisters, Brea and Kyle, who are two and four years younger than him, respectively [6] . Kane attended John Oliver High School in eastern Vancouver [7] . At the age of fourteen, Kane scored 140 points in 66 games for the North Shore Winter Club. This was followed by 22 goals and 54 points for “Greater Vancouver Canadiens” in BCHMML (the British Columbia Junior League), which helped the club take fourth place in the season [8] . Kane also played hockey at the Vancouver club Thunderbirds, before becoming a junior [7] .

Club career

Kane was drafted by the Vancouver Giants Club of the Western Hockey League and made its debut in the 2006-2007 season. He scored one goal in eight games of the regular season, took part in five playoff games and gave one assists in two games of the Memorial Cup won by the Giants [9] . In the first full season, Kane scored 41 points in 65 games and was nominated for a prize for the newcomer of the year [10] . The season 2008-2009, Kane began with 22 games in a row, in each of which he scored at least a point [11] . As a result, in 61 games, Kane scored 48 goals (second result) and scored 96 points (fourth) [9] .

At the 2009 NHL Draft, Atlanta Thrashers selected Kane in the first round under a common fourth number. Kane made his debut in the NHL on October 3, 2009 against Tampa and scored the first point in this game [12] . On March 6, Kane, in a game against Tampa, blocking a shot, got a fracture [13] , due to which he missed 15 games. He finished the season with 14 goals and 26 points in 66 games. The following season, minor injuries resulted in a loss of a total of nine games, and Kane improved his performance to 19 goals and 43 points. Both seasons “Thrashers” did not go into the playoffs.

Before the 2011/12 season , the Thrashers changed ownership and moved to Winnipeg as Winnipeg Jets . In the first season for the Jets, despite missing three weeks due to a concussion, Kane scored 57 points, and at the end of the season signed a new contract for 6 years worth $ 31.5 million [14] .

During a lockout in the first half of next season, Kane signed a contract with Dynamo Minsk and spent 12 matches in the KHL regular season, in which he scored a single goal; the club and the player prematurely terminated the contract. In the shortened NHL season, Kane played all 48 games.

During the 2014/15 season, Kane missed several games by decision of head coach Paul Maurice , and in February finished the season ahead of schedule due to shoulder surgery. On February 11, Kane’s exchange at Buffalo Sabers was announced as part of a high-profile trade involving seven players. [14]

After playing in Buffalo for less than 3 seasons, on February 26, 2018 he was traded at San Jose Sharks for Danny O'Reegan and 2 draft picks. [15] [16] Together with the “San Jose” for the first time reached the playoffs of the NHL and in the very first match against Anaheim Ducks took a double (Sharks won 3-0). [17] [18]

After the end of the season, in May, he signed with San Jose a 7-year contract for $ 49 million.

International Career

Kane played in 2008 at the Ivan Glinka Memorial, winning gold from the Canadian national team under 18 years old [19] . He scored 4 points in four matches [20] , including a pass in the final match with the Russian team, ending 6–3 [21] . A year later, Kane was invited to the junior team of Canada to participate in the 2009 World Cup with teammate Tyson Sexmith [22] . Although he was not initially included in the final list, Dan Tyrell's knee injury freed up one vacant seat that Kane was selected as a replacement for [23] . As the youngest member of the team [24] , Evander scored 6 points in 6 matches, thereby helping Canada win the title for the fourth time in a row; Canadians beat Sweden with a score of 5: 1 in the final.
