White to move. Mate in 10 moves.

The only (with the exception of symmetric [2] ) is the position where, during their course, White with the Queen against the lonely king cannot give mate before the 10th move. Any white move (except 1.Fe5 + and 1.Ff6 +, where White loses the queen) leads to a mate in 10 moves. Approximate developments:

Interesting Facts

There are tasks where the white king is on c3 (or the fields c6, f6, f3 that are symmetric to it), and an additional condition is introduced - the white king is fixed. In this case, in any position, the white queen and the black king checkmate is reached no later than the 23rd move.

Notes

  1. ↑ A queen without help can push the enemy king to the edge of the board. However, to create a queen mat, support is required.
  2. ↑ A total of 8 positions, including symmetrical.
