History
Cousran County
The early history of the county of Cusseran is closely connected with the history of the counties of Commenge , Carcassonne and Foix . In the middle of the 10th century , two brothers were mentioned, Arno I (d. Before 957) and Roger I (d. Before 949). The name of their father is not reported in the sources, however, according to Jurgen, they could be the sons of Asnar III (d. C. 940), who was Count Commenge with c. 935 years [1] . They owned two parts of Commenge County, while Arno is also referred to as Count Cusserana. Arnault is considered the ancestor of the house of Foie Carcassonne . It is not known exactly which territory was part of the county. Perhaps part of Kuseran, which later formed the core of the Viscountry of Kuseran , either remained subordinate to the Counts of Kommenj, or they extended their influence there in the 12th century. Part of Kuzeran was part of the bishopric of Kuzeran .
Of the three sons, Arno Cusseran was inherited by the eldest, Roger I Old . In addition, he received the county of Carcassonne and part of the county of Razet , as well as the lord Foix, which later became the nucleus of the county of Foix . Very little is known about his rule. The last mention of it dates back to April 1011. His second son, Bernard I Roger (981-1036 / 1038), during the division of his fatherly possessions received Kuseran, part of Carcassonne and the lord Foix. Thanks to the marriage with Countess Bigorra Garcenda (d. 1032/1034), he further increased his possessions. Foix Castle was his residence, in which he built a square tower, a symbol of his power. Bernard Roger also contributed to the foundation at the foot of the castle of Foix . He lived for more than 72 years (a very respectable age for this time). According to his will, the possessions of Bernard Roger were divided between his three eldest sons. Cousin was inherited by the youngest of his sons, Pierre Bernard . His older brother, Count Roger I de Foix , died childless, as a result of which either Pierre or his son Roger also inherited Foix, uniting him with Cuserand.
In 1180, the Viscountry of Cusseran was created from part of Kuseran .
