Biography

Born on January 1 (14), 1907 in the village of Rotovka, now in the Putivl district of Sumy region ( Ukraine ). Ukrainian. In 1920 he graduated from the 4th grade of a rural school, in 1925 - from a vocational school in the city of Glukhov (Sumy Region). He worked as a mechanic at a sugar factory on the Mikhailovsky farm (now the city of Druzhba, Yampolsky district, Sumy region ) and in the village of Rakitnoe .

In the army since October 1929 . Until February 1930, he served as a Red Army soldier in the 6th fleet (in the Leningrad Military District ). In 1931 he graduated from the Gatchina Military Aviation School, was left in it as a flight instructor. In 1932-1933 - an instructor pilot of the Lugansk Military Aviation School of Pilots. Since March 1933, he served in the combat units of the Air Force (in the Moscow Military District ).

From June 1936 to August 1943, he was a test pilot at the Air Force Research and Development Institute . In June-July 1941 he conducted state tests of the ANT-58 bomber, which became the prototype of the famous Tu-2 bomber. Participated in state tests of SB and DB-3 bombers, practiced dive bombing.

Member of the Soviet-Finnish war : in December 1939-March 1940 - commander of the air squadron of the 85th bomber aviation regiment. He made 21 sorties on a DB-3 bomber. One of the first to use in combat dive bombing.

Member of the Great Patriotic War : in July-August 1941 - deputy commander of the 410th Bomber Aviation Regiment ( Western Front ), formed from test pilots of the Air Force Research and Test Institute . Participated in defensive battles in the West . He made 9 sorties on the Pe-2 bomber. In September 1941, he was engaged in the formation of the 187th separate reconnaissance and reconnaissance air squadron, consisting of German-made aircraft and Soviet aircraft. After a serious accident on a plane, he was cured for a long time and was able to return to test work only in May 1942.

From August 1943 to January 1946 - test pilot of the Experimental Design Bureau (OKB) V. M. Myasishchev . He lifted into the sky and tested pilot aircraft DVB-102 with engines M-71TK-3 (1944-1945), DB-108 (1945), DIS with VK-107A engines (1945).

From January 1946 to 1951 - test pilot of the Design Bureau A. N. Tupolev . He took to the sky and tested the Tu-2T , Tu-70 , Tu-14 , Tu-18 , Tu-80 aircraft . He took part in the tests of the Tu-2 with engines ASh-83 , Tu-8 , Tu-7 , Tu-4T , Tu-4K , Tu-4Sh , Tu-4D , Tu-14R , Tu-10 , Tu-82 .

From 1951 to December 1957 - test pilot of the Design Bureau V.M. Myasishchev . He lifted into the sky and tested the experimental plane SR (in 1952), the strategic jet bomber M-4 (in 1953–1955). He participated in the tests of the 3M strategic rocket bomber.

For the courage and heroism shown during the testing of new aircraft, by decree of the Presidium of the Supreme Soviet of the USSR of February 7, 1957, Colonel Opadchiy Fedor Fedorovich was awarded the title Hero of the Soviet Union with the award of the Order of Lenin and the Gold Star medal . On February 17, 1959, he was among the first to be awarded the honorary title of Honored Test Pilot of the USSR . In 1957, for carrying out tests of the strategic bomber, the M-4 was awarded the Lenin Prize .

Since December 1957, Colonel F.F. Opadchiy is in stock. Until 1960, he worked as a methodologist at the Design Bureau of V. M. Myasishchev.

He lived in Moscow . He died on April 10, 1996. He was buried in the Rakitki cemetery .
