Sr2 were launched to gradually replace aging Sr1 electric locomotives and today are Finland's most powerful locomotives.
In Finland, these locomotives were nicknamed Guinea pig ( Fin. Marsu ), Edelweiss ( Fin. Alppiruusu ) and Cuckoo Clock ( Fin. Käkikello ) because of their Swiss origin.
