Biography
Manuel Garcia was born on January 21, 1775 in Seville . His family, according to various sources, was of Moorish, Jewish or Gypsy origin [2] .
The husband of the Spanish actress and opera soprano Maria Joaquina Sitches Briones (February 28, 1780 - May 10, 1864), father and vocal mentor of singers Maria Malibran , Polina Viardo and bass Manuel Garcia Jr.
In 1808-1825 he performed at the opera houses of Paris and London . In the years 1825-1827 he toured in the United States of America (with his children).
In 1829 he organized a singing school in the French capital, where he taught.
Despite his Spanish origin, Manuel Garcia presents, in the history of singing, a typical example of Italian style at the beginning of the 19th century. According to John Potter, when he arrived in Italy in 1812 there was a meeting with "a very respected tenor and singing master John Ansani, from whom he acquired skills that would make him able to cope with Rossini.
Garcia made a major contribution to the development of singing, was a decisive opponent of the dominant in the late 18th century. - early 19th century sopranist singers [3] .

The first performer of the role of Count Almaviva in the " Barber of Seville " and Norfolk in the " Elizabeth, Queen of England " Rossini .
The author of a number of comic operas and tonadils . One of Garcia’s songs from the tonadilla “Imaginary Servant” was used by Bizet in the opera Carmen .
