He was educated in the Maritime Gentry Cadet Corps , after which on May 1, 1782 he was promoted to midshipman , served on the ships of the Baltic Fleet "Prince Vladimir" and "Tsar Constantine . " May 1, 1785 promoted to lieutenant.

In 1786 he was transferred to the Dnieper , in the galley fleet, where during the journey of Empress Catherine II he commanded the Iput military gallery , on which the empress was; with her on board made the voyage along the Dnieper from Kiev to Kherson .

During the Russo-Turkish war of 1787-1792, Poskochin commanded a floating battery in the squadron of Prince Nassau-Siegen . Having passed the Dnieper estuary from Golaya Pristan to Ochakov , Poskochin took part in a naval battle under this fortress and was promoted to lieutenant captain and awarded a gold sword with the inscription "For Courage" (June 17, 1788) and the Order of St. George 4th degree (July 31, 1788, No. 263 on the Chevalier list of Sudravsky and No. 541 on the list of Grigorovich - Stepanov)

"For the excellent feats in defeating the Turkish naval forces in 788 on the estuary near Ochakovo."

After the capture of Ochakov, Poskochin commanded the flagship brigantine "Annunciation" and cruised between Ochakov, Hajibey and the Danube . On the Danube, he took part in the assault on the Sulin fortifications, the capture of Tulchi and the assault on Ishmael , for which in 1790 he was awarded the Order of St. Vladimir of the 4th degree.

After these battles, Poskochin in 1791, commanding a galley detachment, was in the capture of the Brailovsky coastal batteries.

January 1, 1796 promoted to captain of the 2nd rank. In 1796, Poskochin left the Dnieper Galley Flotilla, as he was assigned to the Black Sea Fleet , where he commanded the frigate Fyodor Stratilat . Then he took command of the ship " Holy Trinity " and made it the transition from Sevastopol to the Aegean Sea , where he joined the squadron of Vice Admiral F. F. Ushakov . In the Archipelago, Poskochin took part in numerous actions of the Russian fleet to capture individual islands ( Tserigo , Zante , Kefalonia ). October 5, 1798 promoted to captain of the 1st rank. In 1799, he was left with his ship to Corfu to guard this island and survived the battle against an 80-gun French ship.

The following year he returned to Sevastopol and commanded the ship "St. Paul".

On January 9, 1803, Poskochin was promoted to captain-commander , but on March 6 of the same year he unexpectedly died in Sevastopol.
