Biography
Friedrich Boyer was the brother of the herpetologist Heinrich Boyer (1794-1827). Their Heinrich Christian Boyer (1744-1806) was a writer. After the early death of his brother Heinrich on the island of Java, Friedrich managed his inheritance and published letters from his brother in which he described many new species of reptiles and amphibians. Friedrich Boyer regularly wrote scientific articles in the encyclopedic newspaper Lorenz Oken “Isis” ( Isis ), including the article “Notes on Merrem’s attempt to systematize amphibians” ( German Bemerkungen über Merrems Versuch eines Systems der Amphibien ), which was published in 1827. On August 24, 1860, Friedrich Boyer was admitted to the German Academy of Naturalists Leopoldin . Boye first described such bird species as owls ( Athene ), blacks ( Aythya ), long-tailed larvae ( Pericrocotus ), species of stupid black tern ( Anous minutus ) and multi- force bolier ( Bolyeria multocarinata ).
