Bondorff, Friedrich

Friedrich Bondorff ( German: Friedrich Bohndorff ; August 16, 1848 , Plow am See - after 1894 ) is a German explorer of Africa and an ornithologist .

The researcher who described a number of zoological taxa . The names of these taxa (to indicate authorship) are accompanied by the designation " Bohndorff " .

Life

Bondorff initially completed his studies as a jeweler , however, already in 1871 he went on a trip through Switzerland , Savoy and Italy to Tunisia , and from there through Malta to Egypt . He stays for 4 years in Cairo and studies Arabic there.

In the years 1876-79, followed by its own 4-year expedition to the Sudan and Central Africa . On the way back during the attack, he had to leave his valuable collections and notes.

In 1880-87, he accompanies the expedition of the German-Russian explorer of Africa, Wilhelm Juncker . In January 1880, they departed from Khartoum to the countries where the Mangbet and Zande tribes live, to continue the research of Georg Schweinfurt there . The sources of the Uele and Aruvimi rivers were investigated. Having become ill, Bondorff had to return in 1882, however, the Mahdi rebellion blocked his way back and forced him to more than a year's stay in Bahr al-Ghazal with the Dink people.

Since 1887, Bondorff has been in the service of the Governor of the Congo , together with Oscar Lenz and he crosses Africa from west to east. Then he goes with Dr. Lenz for 6 months to Vienna and Brussels , then returns to Cairo.

In 1889, Bondorff became a dragoman of the imperial colonial troops in Africa in the service of Major Hermann von Wisman .

In 1892, he went to Berlin and now makes lecture tours in Germany.

In 1893 and 1895 he was a guest at the annual meeting of the German Society of Ornithologists . His residence at that time was in Bahamoyo . Nothing is known about Bondorff's death.

Bondorff discovered and described in his trips several species of insects and species (subspecies) of birds, some are named after him:
