History
Club "Deportivo Rionegro" was founded in 1957 in the city of the same name Antioquia .
Since 1991, Invariably participated in the competition of Category B, which is the de facto second division of the country after the Mustang Cup . Deportivo Rionegro was the only Category B team to compete in all tournaments of this division until 2017.
At the beginning of the XXI century, the club gradually approached the rise in Example. So, “Deportivo Rionegro” won the 2008 Aperture , but at the end of the season could not enter the elite. In 2009, the team took fourth place, while only one club went directly to the Mustang Cup, and the second place team played butt games with the penultimate team of the elite. In 2016, the team moved to Itagui and became known as Itagui Leones. In 2017, the team managed to win a second ticket to the Mustang Cup and for the first time in history to enter the elite division of Colombian football.
However, it was not possible to stay in the Itagui Leones elite for a long time. In the relegation table at the end of 2018, Leones were in last 20th place, as a result of which the team returned to Example B.
