Description
Beetle is 9-15 mm long. Elytra dark yellow with a characteristic black pattern in the form of a cross, from which, in fact, came the everyday name. [2] The flight time of adult beetles is from May to the end of July. [3]
Ecology
The larvae develop underground in sandy and wet soil , where they feed on the roots of horsetail ( Equisetum ) and, possibly, other plants. Adult beetles are found on oaks ( Quercus ) and forest beech ( Fagus sylvatica ); they feed on leaves of various species of oaks, beeches ( Fagus ), poplars ( Populus ) (mainly aspen ( Populus tremula )), hornbeam ( Carpinus betulus ) and large hazelnut ( Corylus avellana ). Habitats
Crusader Nutcracker prefers deciduous forests .
