Career
Initially, as a biathlete, he played for the second national team of the German Democratic Republic, studied at the German College of Physical Education ( German: Deutschen Hochschule für Körperkultur ) in Leipzig , worked as a coach in Karl-Marx-Stadt and Dresden .
In 1980, he helped his brother escape from East to West Germany, after which he was sentenced to one year and was deprived of the opportunity to engage in coaching. After his release, he worked for 4 years as a forklift driver in a garden. In 1984, he emigrated to Germany and worked for four years as a physical education teacher at the St. Christopher ( Berchtesgaden ) gymnasium. Then, for two years (1988-1990), Mussiggang worked as a coach of the men's national biathlon team.
After the Unification of Germany , in 1991 became co-trainer of Harald Bose ( Harald Böse ) in the German women's biathlon team. Under their leadership, the German women's team, which included such athletes as Petra Bele , Antje Harvey , Simone Hauswald and Martina Zellner , became one of the leaders in the world biathlon.
The successes achieved by the team of Mussiggang and Bose played an important role in the growing popularity of biathlon in Germany.
At the moment he is training the German women's and men's biathlon teams.
Achievements
Under the direction of Mussiggang, German biathletes won 6 gold, 10 silver and 4 bronze medals at the Winter Olympics. At the world championships were won: 22 gold, 14 silver and 10 bronze medals. In total, at large international competitions, German athletes won more than 60 medals.
Mussiggang's wards won six Biathlon World Cups : Martina Glagov in the 2002/03 season, Katie Wilhelm - 2005/06, Andrea Henkel - 2006/07 and Magdalena Neuner - 2007/08, 2009/10, 2011/2012
Mussiggang, after the end of the 2009/10 season, was appointed head coach of the men's and women's teams in Germany. [one]
