Korolkov saffron ( lat. Crocus korolkowii ) is a tuber bulbous herbaceous perennial plant , a species of the genus Saffron ( Crocus ) of the Iris family , or Irisaceae ( Iridaceae ). First tested in 1881 in St. Petersburg. In Kazakhstan it is tested in Leninogorsk and Almaty - successfully grown since 1957.

It is found in Central Asia . Endemic .
It grows on fine slopes.
Plant height of 10-30 cm.
Corm oblong-spherical, slightly oblate, 1.5 cm high, with a diameter of 1.2 - 1.3 cm; membranous membranes, fine-fibrous, form an obscure reticulation.
Leaves , 8-12 in number, bare, narrow, basal, tuft-like, 5–6 cm long, about 2 mm wide.
Perianth in the throat naked, yellow-orange lobes. Three stamens , they are half as long as the tepals, with orange anthers not diverging at the top. The fruit is an oblong capsule, about 1 cm wide, appearing above the soil surface only after ripening. Flowering in February-May, fruits in May-June. Propagated by seed (sometimes self-seeding) and vegetatively .
Saffron is used for food coloring. Saffron is added to the dough, pilaf, pastries to give them not only a beautiful color, but also, with a sufficient amount of saffron, also a pleasant smell.
