Squared font is a font with powerful rectangular serifs without rounding or with a slight rounding at the points of attachment to the main strokes [1] . Such fonts are distinguished by a slight contrast between the thickness of the core and the connecting lines or its complete absence.
“The first squared fonts appeared in England at the beginning of the XIX century . In accordance with the shape of ovals and serifs, the presence or absence of contrast and the degree of mismatch, the bar fonts are divided into the Egyptian, Geometric, Humanistic bar and fonts of the Clarendon type. In addition, this group also sometimes includes block fonts with opposite contrast (“Italian”) ” [2] .
Fonts of this type occupy a leading place on the readability scale and are ideal for typing long texts, as they have a very weak contrast . However, the page typed in this font looks much “darker” than the page typed with a conventional headset, since the strokes of the squared type are denser and more uniform in thickness. The squared font is often used in the recruitment of children's books [3] .
