Creation History

Venditti came up with a scenario for Surrogates after he read about Internet addiction and how people lose their loved ones and work through the fault of life in virtual reality . In an interview, he said: [3]

It occurred to me that if you could somehow create your own identity and send it on business in the real world, where it would go to work for you, carry out orders for you and so on, you would never want to come back and again become yourself.

Venditti also added that he tried to show current trends towards the exaltation of high technology and the human unwillingness to consider both their advantages and disadvantages. “Technology is a very attractive thing,” explains the author. [3]

Main characters

  • Harvey Greer ( eng. Harvey Greer )
  • The Prophet ( eng. The prophet)
  • Lionel Canter ( eng. Lionel Canter )

Screen adaptation

The film of the same name was filmed in 2009 by director Jonathan Mostow . Financially, he was a failure, having collected about $ 60 million with a budget of $ 80 million. [4] [5] The script of the film was changed. In particular, in the final of the comic, the wife of the protagonist Margaret (in the film - Maggie) after losing her own surrogate, commits suicide, and in the film she takes life in the real world.
