Jarash , also Jerash ( Arabic: مدينة جرش ) is a city in northern Jordan . Located about 48 km north of Amman , at an altitude of 527 m above sea level [2] . According to the 2004 census, the population is 31,650.

History
In antiquity, Gerasa was a developed and vibrant trading city, part of the so-called Decapolis . The famous philosopher Nikomakh Gerassky was born here. Strong earthquake in 749 AD e. destroyed most of Jerash. The ruins of Jerash remained covered with a layer of soil for hundreds of years until they were discovered by the German orientalist Ulrich Zetzen in 1806 [3] .

Jordan's Prime Minister Mudar Badran was born.
