Location and nature
The village is located on Drevlyansky land, 5 km east of the regional center of Korosten , in a small lowland on both banks of the Sinyavka river, in the upper reaches of which, across the road, it borders the village of Grozino . At the same time, there are no signs for the demarcation of villages, and therefore, if a traveler enters the signs for Grozino, then upon departure he can see a sign for leaving the village of Singai, and vice versa.
The presence in the vicinity of pine forests, a river with willows and willows create a unique harmony and attractiveness of the area. And the traveler receives a special impression in the spring, when the gardens bloom and their intoxicating aroma penetrates all corners, creates a feeling of paradise. The ramified roads provide good communication between the village not only with the district center, but also with the surrounding villages of Shatrishche , Nemirovka , Khodaki , Novaki , Zubovschina , etc.
The highway M-07 Kiev - Kovel - Yagodin passes through the village, there is a gas station and a car service station, recreation areas, roadside cafes and private hotels.
From History
The exact date of the foundation of the village is unknown, but behind the retelling of the villagers, its history dates back to the time of the princedom of the Drevlyansky prince Mal , his confrontation for independence from the Principality of Kiev . As a remembrance of those distant times, there was the Gale swamp, which was located on the left side of the road Syngai (Grozino) - Korosten, to the intersection with the road to Shatrishche. The local population associated his appearance with the site of the cavalry of Princess Olga , during a raid in 945 of the capital of the drevreys Iskorosten , as revenge for the murder of her husband Igor . In the mid-80s of the XX century, without taking into account the local legend-retelling, the swamp was drained without examination, and today a summer cottage cooperative is located there.
In the Geographical Dictionary of the Kingdom of Poland and other Slavic lands and materials of the Russian Federal State Historical Archive, the village is recalled from 1449 under the name Big Syngai of the Ovruch county of Volyn province , because at that time there was another village in the county with the same name - Syngai .
In 1926, during the formation of new administrative units, the Big Syngai moved to the Korosten district and received the abbreviated name - Singai , and the other Syngai moved to the Narodichsky district and also became known as Singai .
In 1691 (?) The foreman of the village, together with the foremen of the villages of Pashiny , Shatrishche, Novaki, Kupec , Veliki Les and Hodaki, applied for privileges to the Polish king and received the status of nobility (free bourgeoisie) for the villagers, who subsequently did not gain strength. The peasants retained this free status until 1931 - the period of mass collectivization in Soviet Ukraine, when, by imposing excessive taxes, under the threat of criminal liability and eviction, they were forced to give land, animals, remanent and other tools to the collective farm.
The famine of 1932–33 also did not go around the village; the elderly died, many children were taken to Korosten to the railway station and abandoned there. In individual families, they took the opportunity to travel outside the village according to the collective farm management information, as if it were in the interests of the collective farm, in particular to Russia, and provide families with food parcels, which saved the village from extinction. But the collective farm where all animals died out did not save.
After a while, given the proximity to the city of Korosten, orders began to be sent to the village to allocate people for the robot at the railway station and military garrison facilities, in particular, at the airfield and military depots in Pashiny (now the Korosten district), which also played an important role in rescue of the village (the military fed the workers). Work on the today’s famous Skala military facility was carried out by residents of the village of Nemirovka .
At the beginning of the XX century, the village was inhabited by the large homelands of the Syngaevsky and Kaminsky (Kamensky), less numerically - Zagorovsky and Efimovichi (Yukhimovichi), Jewish families.
The villagers mainly maintained subsistence farming, preferring agriculture: they cultivated cereals, hemp, and flax. Among them were carpenters and joiners. But the scarce lands did not give much prosperity and they went on extra jobs.
In particular, with the onset of winter, men left the village and traveled to villages in the Zhytomyr and Kyiv regions , and some traveled to the Chernihiv and Poltava regions . Traded in tar, for which they were called "tar". They did this until the mid 60-ies of the XX century. Due to the absence of husbands, the whole household fell on the shoulders of women, who spent long winter evenings embroidering and weaving - in almost every hut there were looms. Weaved "rainbow" that "keel". Vervie differed from the second ones in the splendor of flowers and large ragged flowers against a dark background.
At the time of entering the Russian Empire , guys from the village of Singai were called up for service in Cossack units. Healthy warriors recruited into the Red Army .
Today
After the reforms in the countryside, the collective farm was liquidated, the land was allocated. However, through the outflow of youth to the cities ( Korosten , Zhytomyr , Kiev ), the village quickly grew old. Earth is empty. Children from the village go to Grozin comprehensive school. If in the mid-80s of the XX century about 250 students went from village to school, then in 2010 - only 8.
Personalities and Culture
In the village was born the Ukrainian writer Vasily Lukich Yukhimovich (Ekhimovich, Efimovich), a member of the Union of Writers of the USSR (since 1956 ), a participant in the Great Patriotic War , Honored Worker of Culture of Ukraine , Honored Art Worker of Ukraine , laureate of literary awards "Memory" and Prizes named after Ostap Vishny, awarded with medals and Honorary Diplomas of the Presidium of the Supreme Council of the Ukrainian SSR and the Chuvash Republic . He is the author of over 20 books with poetry, generosions, wedding songs, song collections, etc. Living permanently in Kiev , he came to the village more than once, always openly communicated with fellow villagers.
In the poet’s treasury there are such poetic lines, imbued with a sense of constant craving for the father’s house:
Vidirvus wants a day in the village,
I will marvel at the hut.
Yak don’t have a number,
And for the mother will be holy.
In early October 2008 , the house-museum of Vasily Lukich Yukhimovich was opened in the village.
The street where the house-museum stands is named after the poet’s brother - fighter pilot Ivan Yukhimovich.
Interesting Facts

It can be seen from everywhere. This is the sedge ( black poplar ), an iconic reminder of the village, around which there are retellings related to the events of Bogdan Khmelnitsky . The height of the tree is over 25 meters, and the trunk in girth is more than 2 meters.
