Spread

Distributed on the coast of North and South America , southern Africa and the western Mediterranean [2] .

Build

Microscopic crustaceans, whose length is 0.5-1 mm [3] . They have an elongated cylindrical body, subdivided into the head section and consisting of 10 segments of the trunk. The head section carries six pairs of appendages: antennulae, antennas, mandibles, two pairs of maxillaes, and a pair of toracopods [3] . The first four torso segments are carried by another 4 pairs of rudimentary thoracopods [3] .

Classification

Currently, all species of mysticacaride are combined into a single family Derocheilocarididae [4] , consisting of two genera:

  • Genus Ctenocheilocaris
    • Ctenocheilocaris armata
    • Ctenocheilocaris claudiae
    • Ctenocheilocaris minor
  • Genus Derocheilocaris
    • Derocheilocaris galvarini
    • Derocheilocaris hessleri
    • Derocheilocaris ingens
    • Derocheilocaris remanei
    • Derocheilocaris tehiyae
    • Derocheilocaris typica
