SpreadDistributed on the coast of North and South America , southern Africa and the western Mediterranean [2] .
BuildMicroscopic crustaceans, whose length is 0.5-1 mm [3] . They have an elongated cylindrical body, subdivided into the head section and consisting of 10 segments of the trunk. The head section carries six pairs of appendages: antennulae, antennas, mandibles, two pairs of maxillaes, and a pair of toracopods [3] . The first four torso segments are carried by another 4 pairs of rudimentary thoracopods [3] .
ClassificationCurrently, all species of mysticacaride are combined into a single family Derocheilocarididae [4] , consisting of two genera:
- Genus Ctenocheilocaris
- Ctenocheilocaris armata
- Ctenocheilocaris claudiae
- Ctenocheilocaris minor
- Genus Derocheilocaris
- Derocheilocaris galvarini
- Derocheilocaris hessleri
- Derocheilocaris ingens
- Derocheilocaris remanei
- Derocheilocaris tehiyae
- Derocheilocaris typica
