Sports career

In September 1909, Jan Schindeler became a member of the Spartan football club - at that time he lived in the southern part of Amsterdam at Quellainstrath 74. At the age of seventeen, Jan began to play for the club’s second composition [2] . In September 1910, Schindeler was stripped of his rights at the club [3] , but was rehabilitated two months later [4] . In February 1911, he began to play for the second Amstel team [5] , and a month later he was transferred to the main team [6] .

In September 1911, Jan moved to another Amsterdam club - Ajax [7] , which was to participate in the first class of the Netherlands for the first time. In the team, he became the reserve goalkeeper, and the main one was Gerard Siegler . In the Dutch championship, Schindeler made his debut on October 22 in a match against the Quick team from The Hague [8] - at home at the Hat Houten stadium, Amsterdam suffered a major defeat with a score of 2: 6 [9] . The next day, Jan was admitted to the Blau-Wit club [10] , where he soon became the main goalkeeper of the team.

As a Blau-Vita player, Schindeler made his debut with the Netherlands at the age of 32 years and 122 days. This happened on April 19, 1925 in a friendly game against the Swiss team. In that match, Schindeler was the substitute goalkeeper, but already in the 35th minute, Jan came on as a substitute for Güus van der Möhlen , by this time his team was losing 2-1. In the second half, Jan conceded two goals, and his team eventually lost with a big score of 4: 1 [11] .

Until 2005, Jan was the oldest goalkeeper of the national team to make his debut, but Henk Timmer , who played for the first time for the national team at the age of 33 years and 344 days, broke his record. [12]

Personal life

Jan was born in December 1892 in Amsterdam into a tailor's family. Father - Johan Christian Wilhelm Schindeler, mother - Francine Kauenhoven. He had a younger brother Franciscus Nicholas Adrianus, born in 1895 in Amsterdam.
