Story
On the archipelago of the islands of Sostralia (Swinland), there is a war between six nations for the possession of the “mud island”. Over 25 missions, the player will have to either fight off the encirclement from enemy soldiers, or go on an assault with a certain number of wards. The player will be given a choice of various enemy soldiers in the face of pigs stylized as French (blue), German (gray), British (green), Japanese (yellow), American (blue) and Russian (red) soldiers.
Gameplay
The game is made entirely in 3D, the gameplay resembles the games of the Worms series, for which the Hogs of War was often called "worms in 3D, only with pigs." However, the gameplay of Hogs of War is quite different from Worms due to the possibility of developing classes, the lack of destructible terrain, as well as the ability to use equipment and buildings. In the game, each soldier can be upgraded to a certain rank in one of the branches of development, which gives its own unique weapons and abilities. There are four main classes:
- artilleryman - specializes in powerful long-range weapons (bazookas, mortars and missile launchers);
- engineer - specializes in explosives;
- spy - uses a sniper rifle as the main weapon, can disguise itself as boxes or trees, becoming invisible to opponents, as well as on a minimap;
- Medic - which can heal friendly (and enemy) warriors.
Regardless of their class, any soldier can pick up and use any weapon found on the battle map.
For the PS1 European version of the game, there is a save for the inaccessible As rank in the Game Guru The Best collection. On the console, up to four players can play through the PlayStation Multitap .

Cultural references
- The poster of the game mimics the poster of the Stanley Kubrick film “ Full Metal Shell ”, also on the helmet instead of “born to kill” ( born to grill) ( born to grill or born to fry ). Two tubes were trimmed to the helmet with a strap: apple sauce for pork ( apple sauce for pork ) and barbecue sauce for ribs ( BBQ sauce for ribs ), and on the strap there was an icon with the inscription Team Lard ( Team "Salo" ).
