Sports career
Baker was born and raised in , where he began to play football [4] . At the age of nineteen, he went to the AFC club in Amsterdam, in which he began to play as a central striker [5] . Soon he received a call to the Amsterdam national team, as well as his teammate Wim Feldmann [6] . As part of the "red-black" Luke performed for three years, and in 1954 he signed a contract with the club " " from The Hague [7] .
In July 1955 he transferred to the Ajax Amsterdam, which paid 15 thousand guilders for it [8] . In August, he made his team debut, playing in a friendly match against Feyenoord . The first game in the Dutch championship was held on August 28 against the club NLA [9] , and scored the first goal in the match against . In the team of Karl Humenberger, Baker played as a defensive midfielder and in the first season he immediately became a base player, having played 32 matches in the championship and scored three goals [10] .
In September 1956, in the first round of the championship, Luke suffered a severe knee injury, which no longer allowed him to play for Ajax [11] [12] - because of the injury, he lost his place in the composition of Wim Anderisen . That season, he only twice went on the field in official matches [13] [14] [15] .
In July 1957, Baker became a player in the club. According to media reports, the transaction amount ranged from 11.5 [16] to 20 thousand guilders [17] . As part of the club, he spent only one match, playing on September 15 in the championship against Sparta [18] . In 1960, Luke ended his playing career, and later became a coach. Under his leadership, in 1975 the club entered the third class of the Netherlands [19] .
