History
Building a temple
The first church on this site is mentioned in 1619 and in 1625 .
The Church of the Nativity of John the Baptist with the Clement's side-chapel was built in 1741 by the manufacturer F. S. Podsevshchikov on the site of an older stone church. The building is a rare example of a modest posad temple in China Town. The high quadrangle , covered by a closed arch , was surmounted by a small light- eight with a head. The lower tier of the square is combined with the refectory and faceted apse by a common white-stone cornice of a complex profile. The corners of all parts of the building are marked with paddles . The high windows of the second light originally had white-stone carved frames and tops, above them octahedral niches stretched horizontally (now laid).
The northern Klimentovsky chapel was rebuilt in 1822 in simple empire forms and combined with the expanded refectory. In 1875, a chapel of the Bogolyubsky Mother of God was built from the south.
The church was renewed in 1894 .
Before the ruin, the iconostasis of the main church was built immediately after the construction of the church in 1741 in the Baroque style; the iconostasis of the Klimentov chapel was built in 1822 in the Empire style.
Soviet period
After closing in the 1920s, it was used as a kindergarten, then as an office.
The fence and the gate were destroyed, the bell tower was broken down to the second tier, the heads with crosses were broken, almost the entire architectural decoration was shot down.
In 1958, rebuilt in a residential building.
Since the 1970s, the Orgkomunenergo establishment of the Ministry of Housing and Communal Services of the RSFSR was located inside.
In 1990, the temple housed a warehouse of the Central Committee of the CPSU .
Temple Restoration
By decision of the Presidium of the Moscow City Council of July 25, 1991, the church was returned to the Russian Orthodox Church . However, it was not until 2009 that a wooden cross was erected over the church and restoration work began in the interior. On the facades were conducted research.
In 2015–2016 , restoration work was carried out on the facades. Restored decor and completion of the bell tower and church. Revealed the original painting in the niches above the windows.
