Career

He began his career at the Southport club and for some time played for obscure clubs from lower divisions. In 1973, he moved to Wolverhampton, but he did not become a base player, having played 17 matches in 2 seasons. In 1975, he signed a contract with the American club Portland Tibers, where he showed a high result scoring 17 goals in 22 matches. In the same year, he began to play for Birmingham City. In 1976 he moved to "Nottingham Forest" with whom in 1978 he became the champion. From 1978 to 1980, he played for Newcastle. In 1980, Aston Villa was bought for 400,000 pounds, which was very expensive for those times. With Aston Villa, he won the English Championship for the second time in the 1980/1981 season. In the same season, scoring 20 goals, he became the top scorer of the championship with Steve Archibald . In 1982, he helped Aston Villa win the European Champions Cup . He scored on 69 minutes the only goal in the final match against Bavaria. In 1983 he won the Super Bowl. He also became the top scorer of his club in the 1981/1982 and 1983/1984 seasons. During the performance for Aston Villa 11, he played for the England team, as a part of which he went to the 1982 World Championships in Spain. In 1985 he moved to Sheffield United. He then played for Hadersfield Town.

Coaching career

He coached teams of Thailand (1998-2002) and Indonesia (2004-2007). He won the ASEAN Championships (2000 and 2002) twice with the Thais, and became the vice-champion (2004) with Indonesia. Led Indonesia at the Asian Home Cup 2007 .
