Characteristics

The galaxy is about 65 million light-years away. It is the central galaxy of the Ovens Cluster - the second largest cluster of galaxies, located within 100 million light years from us. Studies of NGC 1399, as well as the neighboring elliptical galaxy NGC 1404, have shown [1] that they have an unusually high level of X-ray radiation . The most powerful sources are located in the nuclei of these galaxies. It also turned out that between NGC 1399 and NGC 1404 there is a hot gas-dust cloud, which also radiates in the X-ray range.
