Dainov Principality ( Dainava Principality ) - the specific principality of the XIII - XIV centuries. as part of the Grand Duchy of Lithuania . It occupied the territory between the Neman (the right tributaries of the Ditva , Gavia with the river Zhizhma ) and Vilya . On the Kotra River, it bordered on the Principality of Goroden . Currently, some researchers deny the existence of the principality [1] .

History
The first annalistic information about the specific Yatvyaz principality of Dinov dates back to 1255 [2] . It is later mentioned under 1259 in the letter of Prince Mindovg in connection with the Livonian Order . In the 1270s, it was in the possession of the Lithuanian prince Triden , during which it became part of the Grand Duchy of Lithuania.
Population
The population of the principality is the descendants of the Balti-speaking tribe of the Yatvingians , later assimilated by the Slavs and Lithuania .
Reflection in Toponymy
The villages with the yatvyag living in them were called Yatvyaz and Dainova ( Daina is a traditional Lithuanian folk song, and Dainova is a rainbow).
Now Dainava (also called Dzukia ) is a historical region in the south of the Republic of Lithuania, as well as the Dainava Forest located there. And also in Lithuania there are 11 more toponyms “Dainava”:
- districts of the cities of Kaunas and Alytus ,
as well as settlements in
- Elektrensky self-government ,
- Kaisiadory district ,
- Ukmergsky district ,
- Varensky district ,
- Vilnius district , and
- three in the Šalčininka district
- Dainava railway station in Alytus district . In the Lithuanian city of Alytus, the Dainava football club is based.
In Belarus, there are 9 toponyms “Dainova” ( Belorussian Dainava ), 6 of them in the Grodno region (1 in the Ostrovets district , 2 in the Voronovo region , 1 in the Iviev district and 2 in the Lida district ) and 3 in the Minsk region (2 in the Volozhinsky region and 1 in the Pukhovichi district ).
A. Kaminsky writes that in the territory of historical Lithuania there were 28 settlements of Dainova . They were located right up to Minsk . On the other, left side of the Neman were the villages of Yatvyaz [3] .
