Zhitnaya Polyana is a former village near Bryansk , 10 km south-west of the town of Belye Berega . Located on an elevated place among the swamp forests.

History
Mentioned from the end of the XVII century. as the possession of the Svensky monastery . [1] In the 19th century , an inn in the Beloberezhsky desert , located on the old Oryol Bolshak, 18 km from Bryansk; there was a solid building for worldly guests and cells for monks.
When in 1823, Emperor Alexander I drove through the Oryol province , then at a stop in Zhitnaya Polyana, a delegation of monks from the Beloberezhskaya desert presented him with a copy of the Three -Handed icon of the Mother of God — the main Beloberezhsky shrine — and several painted wooden spoons, the monastery was famous for producing. [2] According to eyewitnesses, the spoons aroused genuine delight in the king. [3]

Today
Since 1963, Zhitnaya Polyana, lost in the depths of forests, is considered a separate part of the village of Bolshoy Polpino [4] (lies 12 km from the main part of Bolshoy Polpino). At present, like a century and a half ago, the whole village consists of two courtyards.
Near Zhytnaya Polyana is the sanatorium "Snezhka" .
