NGC 1070 (other designations are UGC 2200 , MCG 1-7-26 , ZWG 414.45 , IRAS02407 + 0445 , PGC 10309 ) is a spiral galaxy ( Sb ) located in the constellation Keith . It was discovered by the English astronomer William Herschel on December 13, 1784 [2] . Carrying out his observations, Herschel noted that she was "rather dull, uneven in circumference, gradually increasing in brightness to the center." This object is one of those listed in the original edition of the New General Catalog .

Features
Galaxy NGC 1070 can be observed through a telescope in the northwestern part of the constellation Ceti, just above the star γ Ceti . It has a distinct spiral structure without a bridge [3] . In 2008, a supernova SN 2008ie was detected in the galaxy [4] . It belongs to type IIb , i.e. occurred as a result of the collapsed core of a massive star.
