First Maritime Law - a document adopted by the Reichstag of the German Empire on March 28, 1898 as part of the new foreign policy course of "world politics" . This law provided for the construction of a qualitatively new fleet, intended not only for the defense of its own shores in the Baltic and the North Sea , but also for vigorous activity “in the vast oceans”.
In accordance with the First Law of the Sea, by 1903 7 battleships , 2 armored cruisers and 17 armored and light should have been built.
