Metropolitan Mexico City ( Spanish: Sistema de Transporte Colectivo Metro / STC Metro ) - a system of metro lines, mainly bus-mounted, in the conurbation of Greater Mexico City , Mexico City , Mexico . This is the second largest metro in North America after the New York metro ; in 2012, it transported 1.609 billion people, which puts it in 8th place in the list of subways for annual passenger traffic . There are 195 stations in the Mexico City Metro at the end of 2012, 24 of which connect two or more lines. 115 stations are underground (maximum depth 36 meters , on Line 7 ), 55 stations at ground level and 25 stations above the ground.
In 2007, the government of the federal district of Mexico announced plans to build a new metro line at number 12. The line opened on October 30, 2012 , it has transfers on lines 7, 3, 2 and 8. In January 2013, the construction of two more was announced Line 12 stations - west of the existing end [2] .
