Abdujaparov was a sprinter. “Tashkent Terminator” - that’s what they called him in cycling for an aggressive and dangerous way to finish.

A graduate of the Soviet sports program, Abdujaparov reached the peak of his career when his country gained independence; after initial difficulties (including Uzbekistan’s rejection of the UCI , which caused problems with Abdujaparov’s participation in the World Cup), he began to play for the West European professional team, becoming one of the best sprinters in the world.

Abdujaparov remains famous for participating in the fight for the green sprint shirt with Laurent Jalaber at the Tour de France in the early 1990s. In 1991, Abdou won the competition despite a spectacular drop during the last leg of the Champs Elysees in Paris, where, 100 meters before the finish, he caught on to the barriers and turned over his head. Despite the fact that he had enough points to win the sprinter jersey , he had to cross the finish line without any help. Members of his team put him on a bicycle, and he slowly drove the remaining meters, accompanied by physicians walking nearby.

In his last full round in 1996, Abdujaparov arranged a mountain break for his last victory at the stage, very unusual for the sprinter . Nevertheless, the results were not so good, and after not passing the anti-doping tests during the second stage in 1997 at the Tour de France, he left cycling. He did not pass the doping test, hiding the presence in his body, among other things, of a medicine for asthma clenbuterol .

Abdujaparov along with Eddie Merckx , Laurent Jalaber , Alessandro Petakki and Mark Cavendish are among the five cyclists who managed to win all three Grand Tours in points.
