Parish History

In 1864, the construction of a Catholic church began in Vladikavkaz, which was completed in 1891 . In 1913, the newly built Church of the Ascension of Jesus Christ was consecrated by Bishop Joseph Kessler . In 1915, the parish numbered 2100 parishioners [1] . From 1911 to 1936, the priest was Priest Anthony Chervinsky . In 1936, the church was closed by the Soviet authorities, about. Chervinsky repressed and shot. For some time there was a radio center in the temple. In 2007, the church was finally destroyed. Currently, a secondary school is being built in its place.

In the 1990s, a gradual revival of the Catholic parish in Vladikavkaz began. In 1993, the Catholic community was registered, which acquired a private house, which today houses the Ascension Chapel of Jesus Christ. The parish has about 100 people [1] . Currently, a process is underway to prepare the beatification of Father Chervinsky in the framework of the program “ Catholic New Martyrs of Russia ” [2] [3] .
