This object is one of those listed in the original edition of the New General Catalog .
One of the most famous star clusters. It forms together with h Perseus (NGC 869) a pair of open star clusters visible to the naked eye, also known to Hipparchus . Located at a distance of about 7000 St. years from Earth [1] .
