Parent rock - horizon C
The parent rock or underlying rocks is the lowest soil horizon on which the basic soil-forming processes occur.
The properties of the parent rock is one of the factors of soil formation established by V.V. Dokuchaev . The underlying rocks largely determine the mineralogical, chemical and mechanical composition, physical properties and soil fertility .
In the description of the soil horizon, the parent rock is denoted by the Latin letter "C".
Classification of breeds
- by origin : alluvial deposits , cover loams, peat , etc .;
- by chemical and mineralogical properties : carbonate , feldspar , etc .;
- by mechanical composition : sandy, loamy, clayey, etc.
