Jean Burgknecht ( fr. Jean Bourgknecht ; September 16, 1902 , Friborg , Switzerland - December 23, 1964 , ibid.) - Swiss politician, mayor of Friborg (1950-1959), member of the Federal Council (1959-1962).

After receiving his doctorate in law in 1926, he worked for his father’s company, and then headed it until he was elected to the Swiss Federal Council. From 1936 to 1947, he was chairman of the Friborg Law Society, and from 1937 to 1941, the Swiss Law Society.
From 1950 to 1959 he was mayor of Friborg. In 1951, he was elected a member of the Swiss National Council from the Christian Democratic People's Party and represented the canton of Friborg there until 1955 . He was then elected to the Council of Cantons , where he represented his canton from 1956 to 1959. In addition, in 1956 he led his party.
He was elected to the Swiss Federal Council on December 17, 1959 and resigned on September 30, 1962 due to illness. During his tenure in government, he headed the finance department, and in 1962 he was elected vice president of Switzerland.
