History

The iPhone 3GS became available for pre-order on June 8, 2009. June 19, 2009 was released in Canada, the United States and 7 European countries, June 26 also came out in Australia and the UK. In the first week after the release, more than one million 3GS were sold. In July and August 2009, the iPhone 3GS came out internationally.

Features

Display

The device’s LCD display was developed by Apple and manufactured by LG . The density of the display is 163 ppi with a screen diagonal of 3.5 inches . The display resolution is 320x480 pixels . Unlike its predecessor, the screen can transmit more saturated colors. The changes also include a grease repellent coating designed to reduce screen contamination. The display is controlled by fingers.

Camera

The iPhone 3GS has a 3 megapixel camera built by OmniVision. The camera has autofocus , auto white balance and the ability to shoot VGA video. A slider appeared in the camera application that allows users to switch between photos and videos. When you tap on the screen, the camera focuses on this place, there is also the possibility of a 5-fold digital zoom (iOS 4 and iOS 5). iOS 5 has the ability to block autofocus and auto exposure while holding your finger.

Processor and RAM

iPhone 3GS runs on a Samsung APL0298C05 chip, designed and manufactured by Samsung. It consists of a central processor ARM Cortex-A8 with a frequency of 833 MHz (software lowered to 600 MHz) and a GPU PowerVR SGX 535. iPhone 3GS is equipped with 256 MB of RAM, which is twice as much as that of iPhone 3G . Thanks to this, productivity has been increased and multitasking support has appeared (after updating the operating system to iOS 4).

Flash

Like all iPhone models, it contains a built-in flash memory, without having expansion slots. The 16 GB and 32 GB variants of the iPhone 3GS were originally released. Later, with the release of iPhone 4 , an 8 GB model was released, and with this the production of 16 GB and 32 GB models ceased.

Power and Battery

iPhone 3GS is equipped with an internal 3.7 V 1219 mAh lithium-ion polymer battery and is able to save up to 80% of the battery after 400 full charge and discharge cycles. The percentage battery indicator was exclusively developed for the iPhone 3GS (Later it was included in the next generation smartphone). Apple claims that the iPhone 3GS battery can last up to 10 hours when watching videos, 9 hours browsing the web via Wi-Fi . 12 hours of talk time on 2G networks, 5 hours on 3G networks, 30 hours of music listening and 300 hours of standby time.

Magnetometer

The magnetometer built into the iPhone 3GS is used to measure the strength and / or direction of the magnetic field with respect to the device. Sometimes the radio signals cause interference, resulting in the need to re-calibrate the compass (having drawn an eight in the air). In iOS, the Compass application is built in, indicating the direction to the north pole.

Networks

In addition to the tri-band UMTS / HSDPA connection and the quad-band GSM / GPRS / EDGE connection on the iPhone 3G , the 3GS also has HSDPA support with 7.2 Mbps download speed.

Voice Control

Voice Control (Voice Control) introduced exclusively for the iPhone 3GS function (later introduced in the next generation iPhone). It allows you to make calls, manage music and use FaceTime with voice. Also, the iPhone can tell you the current time, and you can ask “What time is it?” And “What time is it?” It was turned on by double-clicking the “Home” button in iOS 3, after iOS 4 it is turned on by holding the “Home” button (double-clicking calls multitasking panel).

Features for people with disabilities

VoiceOver, color inversion and Text Zoom were introduced as exclusive features of the iPhone 3GS. VoiceOver is a function that speaks information about playing music, dictates text and other things presented in the third-generation iPod shuffle . Color inversion inverts the color gamut, and Text Zoom increases the font size on the screen.
