History
In 1903, French colonial forces established a military post in the area. In 1905, Banfort was connected by road with Bobo-Dioulasso, and in 1931 a railway was built through the city.
Geography
The city of Banfort is located in the extreme southwest of the country, about 85 km from Bobo Dioulasso and 450 km from Ouagadougou , at an altitude of 303 m above sea level [1] . Included in the department of the same name. It is the main city of the province of Comoe and the region of Cascades . Lies in the Banff Mountain Range.

Economics and Transport
A strategic railway line connects Ouagadougou with Abidjan through Banffora. In addition, the city is connected by an asphalt road with Bobo Dioulasso and the border of Côte d'Ivoire .
Around the city are numerous sugarcane plantations ; this area is the center of the sugar industry of Burkina Faso. In addition, the city focuses on the production of medicines and essential oils. Near Banfort is the Cascades of Carthiguel waterfalls system.
Population
According to data for 2013, the population of the city was 97,137 people [2] , which makes Banfort the fourth largest city in the country. The population in Banffor’s department is 109,824 (according to the 2006 census ) [3] . The city is home to many different ethnic groups. The main languages of interethnic communication of the population are Gyula and French .

The city has 19 elementary schools, 2 high schools, 4 private colleges and St. Theresa ( French collège Sainte Thérèse ).
