Gentleman 's Murder is the second detective novel by John le Carré , published in 1962 . In 1991, a television movie of the same name based on the novel was shot in the UK. The novel was written during a detailed campaign against similar private schools in England, as many believed that such institutions were too conservative [1] .

Story
The action develops in an elite private school. Conservative orders, stiffness and hypocrisy have become the norm among teachers and students. Against this background, the terrifying murder of Stella Road - the wife of one of the teachers.
Investigation of the murder was entrusted to Inspector Rigby, but he cannot find out anything. One of the regular characters in Le Carré books, George Smiley, intervenes.
