How the poet made his debut in the book of poems “Love and Hate” ( 1953 ). After 1989, he appeared as an active political figure in the democratic direction - one of the organizers of the People's Movement of Ukraine for Perestroika , the Democratic Party of Ukraine, the first head of the Taras Shevchenko Ukrainian Language Society.
Biography
Born on September 28, 1929 in the village of Stopchatov (now - Kosovo district , Ivano-Frankivsk region Ukraine ), in a rural family. Ukrainian .
In 1945, he fought for three months as part of the UPA armed forces. By order of a hundred, he left the ranks of the rebel army and subsequently enlisted in the Komsomol [2] .
In 1945-1946 - in custody for 8 months on charges of belonging to the UPA . In 1946, it passed the test and was released.
In 1947 he entered the philological faculty of Lviv University , which he graduated in 1953. He headed the poetry department in the Zhovten magazine (October).
After moving to Kiev ( 1964 ) he worked in the secretariat of the Union of Writers of Ukraine. By his own admission, he moved to Kiev because he understood that the main policy is being done in this city. He wrote poems glorifying Lenin, the CPSU and communism. Member of the Supreme Soviets of the USSR and the Ukrainian SSR [2] .
Member of the CPSU from 1954 to 1990 . Since 1955 - a member of the Central Committee of the Komsomol.
In 1971 - 1978 he was the editor-in-chief of the journal of foreign literature "Vsesvit" ("Universe"). In the 1990s, he was the Ambassador of Ukraine to Poland and Slovakia . 1st rank civil servant ( 1994 ).
He was a deputy of the I (1990-1994), III (1998-1999), IV (2002-2006) convocations of the Verkhovna Rada, representing nationalist or "national democratic" forces in the Ukrainian parliament [3] .
During the presidency, Viktor Yanukovych repeatedly called for actions of mass disobedience against the current Ukrainian authorities. The biggest “crime” of President Yanukovych is the signing of a language law that raises the status of the Russian language in the Russian-speaking regions of Ukraine. Considers the Russian language as a language that was and remains the "language of the invaders" [2] . In the Ukrainian conflict, he speaks out against the DPR and LPR , and advocates a ban on the Communist Party of Ukraine [4] . Calls for the transfer of the Kiev Pechersk Lavra to the Kiev Patriarchate [5] .
Shortly before the presidential election in Ukraine in 2019, he wrote the poem "Before Petro Poroshenko", where there are lines "Friend Petro, do not be afraid, lead to Putin's swords ... Take me - I'm your poet! The manna of God descends upon the bold, the one who always goes forward will not perish ” [6]
Family
Married, had two daughters, but one of them died from carbon monoxide poisoning. Solomiya Pavlychko (1958-1999) - Ukrainian literary critic, historian of literature, translator.

One of the largest translators in Ukraine. His translations included works by Dante , Petrarch , Ronsard , Shakespeare , Camoens , Goethe , Heine , Baudelaire , Ibsen , Dario , Jose Marty , Rilke , Lorca , Vallejo , Staffa , Nezval , Hristo Batev and many other poets.
