Bangor is a city in Penobscot County , Maine , USA [1] . The main commercial and cultural center of eastern and northern Maine. As of 2008, Bangor is the third largest city in Maine. The population of the city was 31,473 people during the 2000 census.

The population of the Bangor metropolitan area is more than 148,000. The population of the region is with five districts (Penobscot, Piskatakis, Hancock, Arustuk and Washington), for which Bangor is a distribution center, a transportation center, and a media center with more than 325,000 people.

Transport
Bangor is located along I-95, US 1, US 2 , and State Route 15. The three main bridges, including the Joshua Chamberlain Bridge and the Penobscot River Bridge, connect Bangor to the neighboring city of Brewer .
A ferry service from the neighboring town of Bar Harbor connects the area with the Canadian region of Nova Scotia .
Six bus companies connect Bangor with almost all of the major cities around and the state, with Boston , Portsmouth, New Hampshire , and St. John, New Brunswick .
