Ptolemy Crater
The Nectar (Ptolemaic) period is a relatively short but stormy period of the geological history of the Moon , which began 3.92 billion years ago and lasted 70 million years. During its course, 10–12 relatively well-preserved basins were formed, including the Nectar Sea Basin, which gave the name to the period.
Craters formed during the nectar period usually have well-defined ramparts and central slides and somewhat recessed bottoms (relative to the surrounding area). A typical such crater is Ptolemy , so this period is sometimes called Ptolemaic .
