He had an important influence on the history of Russia during the Time of Troubles (1598-1618), presenting on March 15, 1604 the impostor False Dmitry I to King Sigismund as the heir to the Russian throne and thereby contributing and giving rise to the beginning of the Polish invasion 1604-1612. Further contributed to the widespread recognition of the impostor in Europe. It appears widely in historical documents as an important figure in the Time of Troubles .
