Foster, Ruthie

Ruthie Cecelia Foster is an American singer and songwriter. Born February 10, 1964 in Goz, Texas, in a family of gospel singers. At fourteen, Ruthie became the soloist of the gospel choir in her hometown, it was then that she became convinced that her future would be inextricably linked with music.

After graduating from school, Ruthie moved to Waco, Texas, where she entered college. During training, she was a member of the blues band that performed in Texas bars. Later, Ruthie was a member of the Pride band, performing funk hits and covers of famous songs. Then Ruthie settled in New York, where she regularly performed at local venues, then she was noticed by the major label Atlantic Records, which offered her a contract for the release of pop albums. However, Ruti was not interested in pop music, as she gave preference to folk, country and gospel.

In 1993, Ruthie, learning about her mother’s illness, was forced to interrupt work on the album and return to Texas. During the care of her mother, she got a job as an assistant at a television station.

1997 was a fruitful year for Ruthie as she released her first solo album, Full Circle, whose success paved the way for a long relationship with Blue Corn Music Records. The leading genres of this album, as well as all subsequent ones, were country, blues, folk, gospel. In December 2009, the singer's fifth album, The Truth According to Ruthie Foster, was released, which was immediately nominated for a Grammy Award in the Grammy Award for Best Contemporary Blues Album category. In May 2010, at the Blues Music Awards ceremony, Ruthie was recognized as the singer of the year in the modern blues genre, and in 2011 at Byron Bay Bluesfest - the best artist in Australia.

In 2011, the album Live At Antones was released, which was released on CD and DVD. And in 2012, the singer released the sixth studio album called Let It Burn, in which, among the new songs, she also presented covers for compositions by Adele , John Martin , Johnny Cash and others.

Currently, the singer has nine albums on her account, the last of which was released in 2017. At the same time, Ruthie still remains known only in narrow circles, she has the backbone of fans, for the sake of which she releases music, and also regularly goes on tours. Her performances have a warm, friendly atmosphere, Ruti constantly communicates with the public.
