Story

Alexandre Valembois.

Game process

In 1932, a young explorer Alexander Valembois, wishing to become famous, went with his close friend Antonio ваlvarez to explore the mysterious island of Amerzon. Having made friends with the natives, he witnessed a strange ritual in which a giant egg of the famous white birds was involved. Wanting to prove to the whole world the existence of these birds, Alexander betrayed the confidence of the natives and stole a mysterious egg. Alas, after his return to France , no one believed either Alexander himself or his records about Amerson.

Sixty years have passed, the world has changed. The Second World War ended , and the island of Amerson is still unexplored and closed to outsiders by its tyrannical leader, Antonio Alvarez. Alexander Valembois has long grown old and lonely lives his life on an abandoned lighthouse. Only one thing does not give him rest: the desire to correct the mistake that he once committed. And then one day a young journalist comes to the old man to listen to a story about his past adventures ...

Gameplay

Amerzone is a first-person adventure game similar to Myst , where the player takes on the role of a journalist who tries to save a rare species of magic birds from extinction. The “partner” of the player is a strange-looking smoky and noisy Hydraflot vehicle, which, depending on the situation, can become an airplane , a tiltrotor , a sailboat and even pull yourself up with a “cat” . He constantly has to look for fuel and clear passages, moving between picturesque gaming locations and looking for clues left by Alexander Valembois.

Ratings and Awards

The game received the prestigious PixelINA Award at the Imagina'99 festival.

Facts

  • In fact, the name “Amerson” was formed by combining two words: “Amazon” (the French name for the Amazon River) and “Amer”, which means “bitter” [1] .
  • The game was developed by Benoit Sokal and Microïds, they later developed the game Syberia and its continuation - Syberia II . These games contain references to Amerzone and are in the same fictional universe .
  • The places, concepts, and some of the characters used in Amerzone come from Sokal's 80s work - a series of comics about the Inspector Canardo, especially from the fifth story of the series, called L'Amerzone.
