History
In 1982, Muriel Laporte, who studied art history in Rennes , met Danielle Chenevier, who played keyboards in various groups. Together they created a new band, L'Ombre jaune (French: Yellow Shadow ), in which Daniel played the keys, Muriel sang under the pseudonym Muriel Moreno, and Jose Tamarin played the guitar. In the same year, the band gave their first concert. In parallel, Muriel worked as a DJ and received a master's degree in art.
In 1984, the group changed its name to Niagara and took part in a competition organized by the Ministry of Culture in Rennes in order to identify promising young groups. After the competition, the group signed a contract with Polydor and in 1985 recorded their first single, Tchiki Boum , which immediately made the group popular. After that, Jose Tamarin left the team and Niagara became a duet. In 1986, the musicians recorded the second single - L'amour à la plage , and then moved to Paris . There was recorded the first album Encore un dernier baiser , which is a mixture of funk , jazz and Afro-Cuban rhythms, combined with the sensual vocals of Muriel. In 1987, the group gave a concert in Olympia , after which it completed its first tour of France.
In 1988, the group released a new album Quel enfer , which had a more rock sound, which was very warmly received by the audience. Songs Assez! , Soleil d'hiver and Flammes de l'Enfer are in the Top 50 . At the same time, Muriel changes his image - he dyes his hair a bright red color and begins to wear very large hats. During the next tour, Niagara visits many countries, including Morocco , Tunisia , Canada and the United States .
In 1990, a new album, Religion , was released, after which the group resumed its concert activities. At the same time, they become one of the stars of the European MTV , so the clips are actively shown on television, including Soviet . At this time, there are problems associated with the fact that Muriel can not live and work at a similar pace.
In 1992, the musicians returned to the studio and released their last album La vérité , after which they again went on a tour of European countries, however, during a tour in Sweden, Muriel had an aphonia , which canceled the tour. After recovery, the group gives a concert in Montreal in front of 5,000 spectators, but the next concert in southern France becomes the last in the history of the group.
In 2002, Flammes was released. In total, over the lifetime of the group, more than 3,000,000 discs (albums and singles) were sold. In the future, each of the musicians was engaged in solo projects.
