This object is one of those listed in the original edition of the New General Catalog .

It is located nearby (angular distance 44 ") and interacts with the spiral galaxy NGC 275 [4] . Although only 8 kpc separates them in the projection onto the picture plane, apparently they are spaced along the line of sight, since NGC 275 shows only weak signs of tidal disturbances, and in NGC 274 such signs were not found [5]
