Romadanovsky ravine

The Romadanovsky ravine is a natural monument (since 1965 ) in the Ishimbay district of Bashkortostan , [1] located in the valley of the river. Kartishla (basin of the river Tor ), on the eastern outskirts of Romadanovka . It is covered by meadow and meadow-steppe vegetation.

Description

On the slopes and bottom of the ravine, in place of a dried river, in natural exposure, deposits of sand and white clay, interspersed with nodules of ferruginous sandstone, are exposed on the day surface. These nodules contain magnificent, well-preserved prints of tree leaves that grew during the Oligocene of the Cenozoic era. The find allowed researchers to more accurately characterize the formation of the earth's crust in this region [2] .

One of the reference sections of the Oligocene deposits with a total thickness of 6 m. It is composed of sandstones, clays, clay sands. They contain ferruginous sandstone nodules with imprints of plants of the Oligocene flora (mainly leaves of the evergreen and gymnosperms Fagus speritus , Potomogeton speritus , etc.).

Literature

It was first described by A.P. Tyazheva (1937), investigated by G.V. Vakhrushev (1940), V.L. Yakhimovich (1958).
