475.1 passenger train
Passenger steam locomotive is a steam locomotive intended for driving passenger trains . Their distinguishing feature is that the diameter of moving wheel sets , as a rule, exceeds 1500 mm (for Russian and European ) and reaches up to 2300 mm. The most typical diameters are about 1700–2000 mm ( C - 1830 mm, Su - 1850 mm, M - 1700 mm, IC - 1850 mm, GWR 6000 - 1981 mm, DB 10 - 2000 mm, LMS Jubilee Class - 2057 mm). The large diameter of the wheelset is explained by the fact that it is necessary to ensure high speed of movement with a relatively small required thrust force.
In order to reduce the axial load and to obtain a more relaxed course of the locomotive at high speeds, these locomotives, as a rule, have a crawler axle or trolley .
